Your life is a story. Your story.
Your ancestors wrote the prologue. Long before you were born, they inscribed their experiences – their strengths and weaknesses and physical history – into the gracefully curling double helix of your DNA. Your family filled in some early chapters, too. They exposed you to foods, environments, and experiences that have shaped how the genes you inherited express themselves.
Every day, a new page of your life is written. Sometimes it feels like you hold the quill. Other days (weeks, months, years) it can seem as if some cruel, unseen scribe is scrawling away on the sacred pages of your life, laying down a far different story than you’d ever have wanted for yourself.
Palimpsest Living is about taking back the quill.
It’s about owning your health and writing the future you want to live.
This blog is about learning how to scrape away damaging habits and replace the blotchy smears of past mistakes with something new and beautiful. It’s about cutting through the bedlam of misinformation, marketing, myths, and junk science to get genuinely informed and intentional about how you live and eat.
You deserve to trade in the futility and deprivation of endless dieting and the odious “eat less, exercise more” paradigm for a delicious, soul-renewing, nutrient-dense feast that makes you feel amazing, fuels your life, and helps put your dreams within reach.
I’m here to help. My name is Jamie. I’m a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, a writer, an unapologetic geek girl, and a lover of all things food. (Welcome to my little corner of the interwebs! I’m so glad you’re here!) This blog is my arsenal, and I invite you to come inside and gear up with everything you need to rewrite your health – and your life – simply by changing the choices you make, one day at a time.
Palimpsest: (n) a parchment or the like from which writing has been partially or completely erased to make room for another text.
So what’s with the title, you ask? In the Middle Ages, parchment was exceedingly precious and often difficult to obtain in adequate quantities. It became common practice to reuse old manuscripts by washing or scraping away the text of an existing work and writing new codices and stories where the old one had been. (Do you see where this is going? Yeah, I figured!)
Your body can be a palimpsest. If you don’t like the story you find yourself in (or you’re afraid of the chapters ahead!) it’s not too late to change it! Like the parchment of old, your body can be scraped clean of what came before. You have the power to pluck the quill from that unseen scribe and write your own magnificent future. I know, because I did it – and I’m here to help you do it, too.
Are you ready?
